7th Grade CWW: IquitosThe 7th grade class travels to the Amazon basin in an area just outside of Iquitos. Most students study the Amazon in books, but FDR students have the opportunity to experience firsthand the flora and fauna of this area of Peru through the following activities: boat rides, hikes, visits to the botanical garden, black lake and the canopy walkway. These activities allow FDR students to connect school learning with the real world. Through other activities such as a day of Community and Service in a river community and workshops with some of the native tribes in the area, the students will cultivate social consciousness, get a feeling for different cultures and develop leadership skills. Year after year, FDR students exclaim that this is the best trip they have ever taken!

8th Grade CWW: CuzcoIn grade eighth, the students travel to the Cuzco area. They study the history and geography of the Andes region of Peru as an integral part of the Middle Years Program. This year’s trip to Cuzco city, Urubamba area, Machu Picchu and their surroundings support those studies.
Furthermore, students will be exposed to interdisciplinary learning, which allows them to make connections and see the “bigger picture.” As such, Community and Service is a component of the trip since where students visit a school in the Urubamba region called Pucllasunchis and an orphanage in Cuzco city called Hogar de Menores Maria Salomé Ferro. *All Pictures taken by Valentina Arditi-Rocha
