Bullying is the main theme of my work, something seen very often during high school. These two photos represent the female and male perspective of being bullied. They sit in a shadow with a spotlight hitting the side of their face, casting a glow and an outline of their figure. The black shadow represents their insecurities, the bigger and darker the shadow, the more insecure they are. The light represent hope, their face going forward to the light, reaching for hope and reaching for more to get out of the dark.

Name: Valentina Arditi Rocha
Title: “Captured in the smoke” Medium: Ink and acrylic on paper Dimensions: 22.9cm x 30.5cm This art piece demonstrates the captivity of an individual when they light up a cigarette. My inspiration came from watching “The Real Cost” smoking commercials and my idea was to recreate and show the world the feeling of one who smokes. As the words surround her in bold red, they repeat constantly in her head not letting go, drawing her back to the cigarette. Her lips are slightly open and chapped, showing that she is constantly dying inside and the darkness of her face shows that she is afraid of letting go.
